The boys’ hockey team skates into the first round of the playoffs tonight at Airport Arena against Hampton, a team that beat the Highlanders earlier in the season, 5-3.

Freshman goalie Cole Shannon said he’s a little nervous, but after he sees the first puck in warm-ups, he will put his game face on.

“I am naturally nervous as I think most of the guys will be as we take the ice, but it won’t take long to get into our groove,” Shannon said.

Shannon said if Baldwin capitalizes on its power play opportunities, then good things will happen.

“We can win this game if Hampton takes penalties, because they tend to be out of sorts on their penalty kill,” Shannon said.

Sophomore Nick Antonio said getting pucks past Hampton’s goalie will be key.

“Hampton has a good goalie, so it is always challenging,” Antonio said.

Antonio said Kenny Dee and Paul Knerr should be standout players in tonight’s game.

“Kenny is a good defender, and Paul is our best scorer,” Antonio said.
